Iván Ortiz
Spanish conductor whose artistry has been shaped by his years as principal horn with the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne and by collaborations with leading European opera houses and orchestras.
ABOUT
The Conductor
Iván Ortiz is a Spanish conductor whose artistic profile has been shaped by his years as principal horn of the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne. His solid musical training, supported by scholarships from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the regional government of Valencia, led him to fulfil a long-standing wish to move to the podium. He studied conducting with George Pehlivanian, Marco Guidarini and Bertrand de Billy, and later worked as assistant to Joshua Weilerstein and Franck Beermann on productions such as Ariadne auf Naxos, Le nozze di Figaro, Parsifal and Die Zauberflöte. Recent projects include collaborations with the Ensemble of the Opéra National de Paris, where he has conducted Berio's Folk Songs, Mahler's Kindertotenlieder and Stravinsky's Dumbarton Oaks, as well as the multidisciplinary project 'Opéra Kids', which uses singing, dance and theatre to introduce children to opera.
